BEAU DUNN Q + A
1. Why did you decide to launch Who Is She Wearing?
Who Is She Wearing is incredibly meaningful to me because it represents so much more than just fashion—it’s about storytelling, identity, and empowerment through style. I’ve always believed that fashion isn’t just about what you wear; it’s about how you feel in what you wear and how that speaks to your unique personality. This project is the perfect platform to share that message. For me, this is an opportunity not just for a moment— but to inspire a movement. It’s a way to redefine what it means to be a modern-day “it girl,” not just in terms of aesthetics but in embracing individuality, creativity, and even vulnerability. I love challenging the norms of fashion and celebrating personal expression on such a grand scale.
2. What does Who Is She Wearing mean to you on a personal level?
Who Is She Wearing represents a shift in how we perceive fashion. Traditionally, when someone asks, “Who are you wearing?” they’re focusing solely on the designer or the brand. But I see it as a much deeper question—one that asks about the story behind the look, the choices, and the person who’s wearing it. On a personal level, this project is about showcasing how fashion is an extension of who we are as individuals. It’s a celebration of all the layers that make us unique, from our experiences and emotions to our passions and ambitions. For me, this project is a way to share my personal style journey and how it has evolved over time, influenced by my work as an artist, model, and actress, as well as by my own health journey.
3. Can you describe your personal style in three words?
If I had to boil it down, my style would be colorful, bold, and classic. I love playing with contrasts—mixing vintage pieces with contemporary ones, playing with vibrant colors but also appreciating the elegance of minimalist design. My wardrobe is very much like an art gallery, constantly changing and evolving with my mood and the different facets of my personality. I think it’s so important for fashion to reflect who you are in the moment while also nodding to the past and future, which is why I consider my style timeless.
4. How does your style reflect your personality?
My style is an exact reflection of my personality—it’s fun, colorful, fearless, ever-changing, and deeply expressive. I’m someone who doesn’t shy away from taking risks, whether in my career or my wardrobe. I see fashion as a playground where I can experiment, push boundaries, and tell my story. One day I might wear a dramatic, avant-garde gown to an event, and the next, I’ll throw on a pair of jeans with a vintage tee. That versatility speaks to how I approach life in general. I’ve always believed that you don’t have to stick to one lane—whether it’s in your personal life or your career—and my wardrobe mirrors that belief. It’s a blend of sophistication, creativity, and fun. My friends say I’m all or nothing - either literally in a pink gown or in my alo workout gear.
5. What’s your approach to blending fashion and art in your life?
Fashion and art are inseparable for me. As a visual artist, I’m constantly working with colors, textures, and forms, which naturally translates into how I dress. My approach is to see fashion as wearable art. Each outfit I put together is like curating a piece of artwork—thoughtfully selected and assembled to make a statement. I believe that both art and fashion have the power to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and communicate messages. Whether it’s through a bold accessory or an entire look, I want my fashion choices to resonate the same way my art does—with meaning, depth, and creativity. Fashion is a medium for self-expression just like a canvas is for painting, and I love exploring how the two can overlap and enhance each other.
6. How important is sustainability to you in fashion?
Sustainability is something that has become increasingly important to me over the years. The more I’ve learned about the environmental impact of the fashion industry, the more I’ve realized how crucial it is for all of us—especially those with influence in the fashion world—to advocate for and practice sustainable fashion. I’ve embraced the idea of revolving fashion, where I re-wear and repurpose pieces rather than constantly buying new items. I think there’s something beautiful about breathing new life into an old piece and creating different looks with it. Plus, it’s a way to challenge the notion that fashion always has to be about what’s new and trendy. True style is about making conscious choices that reflect not just your aesthetic but your values as well.
7. How does inclusivity in fashion play a role in your wardrobe choices?
Inclusivity in fashion is incredibly important to me because I've experienced a wide range of body types, from XS to XL, and I know firsthand how the industry can make people feel excluded. Fashion should be accessible to everyone, regardless of size or price. I don’t just buy luxury items—if I love something, I buy it, whether it’s high-end or more affordable. I believe in having a closet that’s price-inclusive and diverse. My wardrobe reflects that belief, catering to different sizes, styles, and budgets. To me, fashion is about finding what works for you and embracing it, not fitting into a specific mold.
8. What’s your favorite piece in your wardrobe right now and why?
I’m absolutely obsessed with curating my own collection of unique vintage pieces, especially anything with sequins. I love the thrill of discovering and sourcing vintage gowns, accessories, and statement pieces, whether it’s from a hidden gem of a store or online. It’s the perfect combination of edgy and glamorous, which is exactly how I want to feel when I wear something. What draws me to vintage fashion is not just the uniqueness of each piece but the story behind it. Every item feels like it has a history, and I love being able to add my own chapter to that. Whether I’m dressing up or down, my vintage finds are always conversation starters, and to me, that’s the best kind of fashion—something that makes you feel amazing while sparking curiosity and dialogue. There’s a certain magic in wearing something with a past, and that’s why vintage fashion holds such a special place in my heart.
9. Do you have a fashion icon or inspiration?
I draw inspiration from so many different people and places, but if I had to name an icon, it would definitely be Princess Diana. Her style was the perfect blend of regal elegance and effortless casual. From her stunning gowns at royal events to her iconic 90’s streetwear looks—like white socks and oversized vintage sweatshirts—she knew how to mix high fashion with everyday pieces in a way that felt both timeless and relatable. She had an incredible ability to balance glamour with comfort, and her style has had a lasting impact on how I approach fashion. I love how she was able to tell a story through her clothes, blending sophistication with personality, and that’s something I try to emulate in my own wardrobe.
10. How does fashion help you express your identity as a multi-faceted talent—artist, model, actress?
Fashion is the thread that connects all aspects of my life, allowing me to express myself in every moment. My style reflects who I am and how I feel, constantly evolving with new ideas of form and color. I see fashion as more than just something I wear—it’s a creative outlet that lets me explore and communicate different parts of myself. It has the power to transform how I present myself and allows me to tell a story through what I choose to wear. Fashion helps me define and refine who I am, making it one of the most personal forms of self-expression.
11. What’s your go-to look when you’re on the go and need to feel both chic and comfortable?
On a day-to-day basis, my go-to look is usually something sporty and comfortable, like a cute Alo onesie or chic athleisure. I also love a great pair of baggy jeans paired with a vest or a classic white tee. My style tends to be either super casual or full-on glam—there’s really no in-between for me. I’m all about ease and versatility when I’m dressing down, but when I’m going glam, I go all out. Whether it’s a laid-back, effortless vibe or head-to-toe glam, my style always reflects how I’m feeling in the moment.
12. How does your fashion journey relate to your personal health journey, particularly after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer?
My health journey has had a profound impact on my relationship with fashion. After having a life altering knee injury and then being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2021, I went through a period of physical and emotional transformation, and fashion became a way for me to regain a sense of control and empowerment. Even on my toughest days, putting on an outfit that made me feel good gave me a boost of confidence and helped me feel like myself again. Fashion became a form of therapy in a way—it was a reminder that, no matter what I was going through, I could still express myself and take ownership of my narrative. That experience deepened my understanding of how powerful fashion can be, not just as a form of self-expression but as a tool for resilience.
13. What role does color play in your wardrobe, especially as someone known for having one of the most colorful closets in Hollywood?
Color plays a huge role in my wardrobe—it’s truly the foundation of my style. I’ve always been drawn to bold, vibrant hues, and I love how different colors can completely transform an outfit and your mood. For me, fashion is all about expression, and color is one of the most powerful ways to make a statement. My closet is a reflection of that—bright, fun, and full of personality. I think there’s something so exciting about embracing color, whether it’s through a striking monochrome look or mixing unexpected shades together. It’s a way to stand out, and I’ve never been one to shy away from that!
